From breaking exclusive news stories which resonate around the world to in-depth coverage of complex criminal court cases, award-winning Robert Murphy is at the cutting edge of television news journalism.

Rob is the presenter/producer of ‘Behind the Crimes with Robert Murphy’ podcast.

He is the host of ITV News’ first two True Crime podcast series ‘No Strings Attached’ and ‘Catching Melanie’s Killer’ and the co-writer of the CWA Dagger-nominated True Crime book ‘To Hunt a Killer’ with the former Detective Supt Julie Mackay.

He broke the story of the Bristol police race relations advisor tasered by officers. Rob made international headlines when, in July 2019, he discovered a ‘lost’ interview with Banksy. No other journalist has the same depth of knowledge of the investigation into the serial killer Christopher Halliwell. He is the only reporter to interview the mother of murder victim Melanie Road. Robert also covered the 7/7 bombings, the Emile Cilliers prosecution, the trial of Penelope Jackson and the trial by media of Christopher Jefferies.

In 2023 the Royal Television Society SW awarded Rob an award for ‘Decoy’ the film he directed about one of Britain’s most audacious undercover operations.

Before TV, Rob worked as a reporter for both regional and national press.

He was also an Associate Lecturer at the School of Journalism at the University of the West of England.
